The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas – I’m 105 pages in as of writing this and enjoying it so far! Took a little bit to get going but i’m interested now.
What I’ve Recently Finished
Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley (The Second Norton Critical Edition) – I love Frankenstein so much. Loved some of the essays, not so much others.
What Do I Think I’ll Read Next?
Whatever I feel like then.
Other Stuff
With everything I got going on, the possible new hernia while still recovering from hernia repair surgery (I see the Dr tomorrow) among other things, i’m going to stop posting on a schedule. I do already have a couple posts scheduled to go but from now on i’m just going to blog when I REALLY want to. When I have something I really want to say, maybe it’s gushing about a new favorite book or deep diving into a book or some other topic. Could be cannabis related, could be news related, could be book related, could be life related etc. Just whatever calls to me to blog about. So i’ll be sporadic from now on but the posts I make will have more passion behind them.
I also recently made a storygraph profile! It is here if you want to check it out.
I also added it to my linktree links, which has all my socials in one spot.
Well at the moment I don’t think i’ve been able to read in a few days, however I am still working on the 2nd Norton Critical Edition of Frankenstein and the Cannabis Pharmacy books that I mentioned 2 weeks ago in that Bi-weekly Wednesday Wrap Up.
What I’ve recently finished
Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery by Brom – 5 stars! I am so glad I loved this one just as much as I did Krampus: The Yule Lord! I saw the same things in it that made me love Krampus enough to read it 3 times already. Maybe i’ll revist Slewfoot later to.
I’m not entirely sure what else to say. I loved Abitha. She’s a strong woman who goes through so much shit. I loved Samson as well. I loved the messages in the story. I just want everyone to experience it for themselves and it’s perfect for spooky season!
What do I think i’ll read next?
I don’t know. Still working on Frankenstein and Cannabis Pharmacy like I said above. I got a huge list of potential stuff for October so, we’ll see.
Other Stuff
I’m still recovering from my hernia surgery in July and it looks like I might already have another causing serious problems. I am so fucking tired. I can’t do this. I struggle so much just to survive let alone have hope for a better future as everything, every hope i’ve ever had, is always taken from me. I don’t want to go into all right now. It’s a lot. And I doubt anyone cares. I lost my husband, my grandma, 2 people who actually supported me being transgender. My health issues and body are a mess and I was born this way and can’t fix it. I’m super scared for my future. I battle so much I don’t speak on the internet, and since i’m so open about so much, I doubt anyone would think that, but it’s true. I’m sure it’s true for a lot of people.
Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley – I’m making progress on the extras.
Cannabis Pharmacy: The Practical Guide to Medical Marijuana by Michael Backes – Making progress on this to.
Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery by Brom – I’ve read one chapter so far. I need to continue it.
What I’ve recently finished
Lagoon by Nnedi Okorafor – 4 stars
Thought provoking and interesting. Not sure what to say though, but glad I read it.
Dracula by Bram Stoker – DNF
I give up. I read Dracula (all of it) a few years ago. I didn’t like it. I thought maybe i’d appreciate it more now, but I don’t. I listened to 2 chapters. The narrators are great, if you love Dracula check it out (you can find it on audible.com – has Tim Curry and a whole cast). I’m bored. I hate that I don’t like it, I LOVE vampires … generally. But this just doesn’t work for me. I really thought i’d be able to get into it but I can’t, I just can’t. I’ve loved (years ago, I need to rewatch it) the Dracula movie with Gary Oldman. I should just rewatch it.
What do I think i’ll read next?
I don’t know.
Other Stuff
I’m still recovering, from the surgery and I have a cold. My stomach is in all sorts of pain. My normal medical issues, fluid build up, still recovering from the surgery .. I have started making YouTube videos again, being more relaxed about it. The link below links to my linktree which has links to all my social media.
Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley, Cannabis Pharmacy: The Practical Guide to Medical Marijuana by Michael Backes
Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley – I finished the actual story last October but there’s extras I still need to read. And I love Frankenstein! It’s my favorite book <3.
Cannabis Pharmacy: The Practical Guide to Medical Marijuana by Michael Backes – I have recently gotten a medical marijuana card! So yea, I wanna learn things. I use it for chronic pain and stomach problems mostly. I also have anxiety, depression, ptsd, trouble sleeping .. Seriously, i’m a mess of issues. But cannabis is here to help.
What I’ve Recently Finished
BBC Science Focus Magazine by Immediate Media Company London Ltd – I gave it 4 stars. Science magazine. Had nothing to say.
Me and My Dysphoria Monster: An Empowering Story to Help Children Cope with Gender Dysphoria by Laura Kate Dale – I gave this 5 stars. I read it thanks to Netgalley and here was my review for it.
I wish i’d had this as a child. I would’ve had the words and known I wasn’t alone so much sooner.
There are some draft errors (like on one page it says missing words and later some sentences just stop in the middle) but I got this from Netgalley and it is an e-arc draft so i’m not holding that against it.
Nisha is a trans girl. She has a dysphoria monster that keeps getting bigger as she’s misgendered but then she comes out and has support and her monster gets smaller. At first she wanted her monster to just go away but with the help of an adult trans man learns what her monster was trying to tell her, and living as who she is makes her so much happier and confident. It’s a beautiful story and has information for adults wanting to support trans kids after the story. I highly recommend this book!
Thank you to the publisher and Netgalley for the e-arc.
Stinetinglers: All New Stories by the Master of Scary Tales by R.L. Stine – This is a collection of 10 stories and I also read it for Netgalley, here was my review.
I really enjoyed this collection over-all! It has 10 stories. I didn’t care for 2 of them personally (but I didn’t hate them or anything) and I really enjoyed the other 8! 3.65 average rounded up to 4 Welcome to the in-between 3.5 Our Little Monsters 2 Skin 3 The Ghost in the car 4 The boy who heard screams 5 Bugs 3.5 How to change your life 4 The bad side 4.5 The hole in the ground 5 The monster maker 2 These are obviously just my opinions, nothing more. These stories are perfect for kids I think and they are certainly fun to read as an adult to. If you enjoy Goosebumps (or Goosebumps like books) definitely check this collection out. A few of them gave my spine a tingle!
Philosophy Now – Issue 150 by Anja Publications – Philosophy magazine. I gave it 3 stars. Didn’t care for parts of it, had some issues.
What Do I Think I’ll Read Next?
Lagoon by Nnedi Okorafor -A Science Fiction, going to read this as it’s my book club pick for The eclecticist of eclectic book club. It’s set in Africa and has something to do with aliens. It sounds awesome!
Dracula by Bram Stoker – I read Dracula once years ago and didn’t like it but I think i’ll like it more now and have been wanting to give it another chance and it’s Georga’s pick for our book club, The eclecticist of eclectic book club. I also have borrowed this audible plus book that has a big cast of narrators, including Tim Curry, so I think that’ll help to!
Other Stuff – I don’t even know where to start, struggling to recover from surgery, i’m sick, Antibiotics don’t seem to be helping, my mom had/has the same cold crap but now has some sort of other bug. It’s my husband’s, who passed away Feb 16th 2021, birthday today so that’s making me sad and my period just started today (i’m a nonbinary trans guy btw) and it was a bit late so it’s like it waited for this day in particular and also I had a huge spider (daddy long legger) crawling on my arm earlier! Made me drop my switch (seems to be fine) and scream. And a Dr’s appointment keeps getting pushed back because I don’t drive and my mom’s been too sick to take me. I’m terrified i’m going to get this new bug on top of everything else and I can’t recover from what i’ve got and the surgery as it is!
Sorry it’s all over the place and might not make sense. It’s been a lot, still a lot. So much. I’m exhausted. Please make it stop, I need a break.
I know it’s been 2 weeks again since the last one but I had nothing to post last week really. Hell, I don’t have much now.
What I am currently reading
Nothing at the moment.
What i’ve recently finished
Haben: The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law by Haban Girma – 5 stars!
This is a wonderful autobiography! I loved how stories from her life was told in the present tense, it felt so much more personal. It’s also infused with humor. You can learn so much from this, in an accessible way and having a nice time while doing it. Please read the discussion questions at the end, they give food for thought.
I have also been disabled my entire life but for entirely different reasons. I am neither deaf nor blind. I do have auditory processing disorder though so when she mentions there was too much noise to make anything out, I relate to that. I can’t make anything out in those situations either.
She’s the first deafblind student to graduate Harvard, and she’s barely 6 months older than me. We still have so far to go, but that’s not meant to take away from how far we’ve come.
What do I think i’ll read next?
Something for netgalley? A magazine? Who knows. Maybe something else.
Other Stuff
Me and my mom are sick. It’s not covid but it still sucks and I can’t get a break because it’s one thing after another trying to recover from intense surgery still and now i’m sick on top of it and my body has a lot of trouble healing in the best of circumstances :(. But the drain sites look better so hopefully in time i’ll get better. If this cold doesn’t turn into pneumonia which they love to do with me. Please, send good vibes or whatever.
I know it’s been more than a week, because of surgery, and I was going to try to do one last week but the only book I read was The Gender Friend: A 102 Guide to Gender Identity by Oakley Phoenix which I had already wrote a review for Here. So here’s just the past week!
What I am currently reading
Nothing at the moment. Hopefully that’ll change soon, we’ll see. There is at least one book I need to read this month but since i’m feeling like shit (I appear to have an infection from the surgery drains I still have but I am on an antibiotic now so here’s hoping i’ll be ok) i’m not sure what else i’ll get to.
What I finished in the past week
Paradise Club by Tim Meyer – This was good gorey slasher fun! And I liked the characters to, even cried a little bit at a certain death. Gave it 5 stars.
Discover – May/June 2022 by Kalmbach Publishing Co. – Science Magazine. Gave it 3 stars.
BBC Wildlife Magazine – May 2022 by Immediate Media Company London Ltd – Animals and nature magazine. Gave it 4 stars.
What do I think i’ll read next?
Haben: The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law by Haban Girma – This book is the bare minimum I need to read this month, because I picked it for a book club, The eclecticist of eclectic book club. Hopefully i’ll read more but, who knows. I certainly don’t. I do have an August Pile of Possibilities that’ll be posted on Saturday.
I started this last night. Not far in but i’m liking it so far. I feel awful for the main character!
What I finished in the past week
Monster Musume, Vol. 8 by Okayado – 4 stars
Not much to say. Still enjoying the series. Funny and like the characters.
Saga, Volume 5 & 6 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples – 5 and 4.5 stars
Can’t say much about volume 5 and 6. If you haven’t read Saga yet I highly recommend it! This is me continuing my reread in preparation for volume 10 in October! A wonderful science fiction comic series!
What do I think i’ll read next?
Gender Queer: A Memoir Deluxe Edition by Maia Kobabe – I read this years ago and it meant so much to me! More than words can say, but I did write a review Here. So of course I needed the deluxe edition that just came out!
NeuroTribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity by Steve Silberman – like I said last week i’m autistic and this is very highly rated.
The Gender Friend: A 102 Guide to Gender Identity by Oakley Phoenix by Oakley Phoenix – I got this from Netgalley.
A Little Pinprick by Paige Dearth – I also got this from netgalley and have loved a couple books by Paige Dearth before! I’m preparing to be emotionally devastated. Paige’s books tend to do that.
Monster Musume, Vol. 9 by Okayado – Continuing the series.
Other Stuff
I’m having surgery July 18th and will be in the hospital about a week most likely. I am not sure what i’ll be able to do while in the hospital or while recovering, which could take a month or 2. I imagine i’ll be able to blog once I get home even though i’ll still be recovering. Either way, health comes first. I’ll get back to blogging when I can if I have to take a hiatus. I do have a post scheduled for the 19th and the 26th.
Nothing at the moment. I’m guessing that won’t last long.
What I Finished in the Past Week
BBC Science Focus Magazine – April 2022 by Immediate Media Company London Ltd – 4 stars
Just a magazine
Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt – 5 stars
OMG This book means so much to me now! It’s character-driven and it’s one of those books I want to shove in everyone’s face lol. I felt so much of what Tova was going through for my own reasons. And felt for Cameron. And Marcellus the Octopus is amazing, all three of these characters are amazing. I loved so many lines. It made me cry. I found so much depth in these pages personally. And I had to hug the book! I wanna give it more than 5 stars!
Monster Musume, Vol. 7 by Okayado – 5 stars
A manga. I enjoy these characters. Has some depth to it now and then. Often funny.
What do I think i’ll read next?
Saga, Volume 5 and 6 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples – Need to continue my reread for Volume 10 in October
Monster Musume, Vol. 8 by Okayado – Last I checked (Just yesterday, for awhile it kept getting pushed back) Volume 17 is due out in December. I have some catching up to do.
NeuroTribes: The Legacy of Autism and the Future of Neurodiversity by Steve Silberman – I’m autistic and this is very highly rated.
Of course I do not need to read these. They are just what i’m thinking of reading at the moment.
BBC Science Focus Magazine – April 2022 by Immediate Media Company London Ltd
Still behind on my magazines of course. Maybe i’ll catch up within a few months.
What I finished in the past week
BBC Wildlife Magazine – Spring 2022 by Immediate Media Company London Ltd, Cirque Berserk by Jessica Guess, The Cannibals of Candyland by Carlton Mellick III, Archaeology – May/June 2022 by Archaeological Institute Of America
BBC Wildlife Magazine – Spring 2022 – 5 stars
Aminals (spelling on purpose) and nature
Cirque Berserk – 5 stars
This was so much fun. I loved getting to know the characters and feel for them. This book made me cry. It also made me question things because things aren’t black and white. It even has a trope I hate and I still loved this book and am giving it 5 stars! That says something.
It’s an interesting slasher, that’s for sure!
The Cannibals of Candyland – 4 stars
I’ve really gotta read more bizarro. This is my second book by Carlton Mellick III. My first was The Haunted Vagina. I really enjoyed both of these books. Not only is it weird, it can also be thought-provoking. My only complaint, for both of them, is the ending feels rushed. But I still look forward to reading more by this author!
Archaeology – May/June 2022 – 4 stars
Magazine
What do I think I’ll read next?
Since i’m relaxing on reading so much and going to focus on mood reading some weeks i’ll have nothing to say about this however right now I do know what the next book i’ll pick up should be.
I have been staying off social media like I said to a point. I did search some things on twitter but stayed off my feed and I still post once in awhile to Instagram. I’m still hearing the news of course, I don’t need to be drowning in it and giving myself more panic attacks, especially with my anxiety already on high from an upcoming surgery and the fact that all this awful news impacts me to. Yes, we need to fight. We also need to care for ourselves so we CAN fight.
I’ve played some good ol’ Sims 2, oh how i’ve missed thee. My Simblr (Sims Tumblr) is Here if you’re interested in my Sims game.
BBC Wildlife Magazine – Spring 2022 by Immediate Media Company London Ltd
Working on those magazines. Animals!
2. What did you recently finish?
Trans Wizard Harriet Porber and the Bad Boy Parasaurolophus: An Adult Romance Novel by Chuck Tingle, Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke by Eric LaRocca, Her Stepsister’s Secret by Callista Bree, Archaeology – March/April 2022 by Archaeological Institute Of America, Philosophy Now – issue 149 by Anja Publications
Trans Wizard Harriet Porber and the Bad Boy Parasaurolophus – 4 stars
Despite all the typos and the fact I think this coulda been even better if it had been a bit more polished I still really enjoyed this. It’s hilarious, I enjoyed the characters and the story and especially the calling out of she who shall not be named and the whole romance parody thing. There’s also the complete smashing of the 4th wall.
Now, which of Chuck’s 5,000 other books do I read next?
Things Have Gotten Worse Since We Last Spoke – 2.75 stars
My review, the first part being right after I read it and just a little later I did the “edit”.
What in the bloody fuck was that? I don’t mean that as an insult in any way. It’s just bizarre and I have no idea how to rate it. I didn’t dislike it at all. I just … wtf man. … wtf
Edit: Logging this into my spreadsheet (of books I read this year) that has different aspects of the book I came up with a 2.75 and that feels right somehow. It’s just my opinion and i’m not sure how to express it. I think it needed … more. The characters, the atmosphere, the plot. I just needed, more. But again, that’s just me.
Her Stepsister’s Secret – 5 stars
Taboo. Review going up tomorrow. There is a bonus story that I refused to rate because I hated it.
Archaeology – March/April 2022 – 4 stars
Nothing to say. Magazine.
Philosophy Now – issue 149 – 4 stars
There always seems to be at least 1 article per magazine that I really wish everyone would read, but there’s also a bunch of shit I don’t understand and people talking in circles. In some ways philosophy really seems important, and in others, philosophers seems a bit … ridiculous.
3. What do you think you’ll read next?
Archaeology – May/June 2022 by Archaeological Institute Of America, BBC Science Focus Magazine – April 2022 by Immediate Media Company London Ltd, Cirque Berserk by Jessica Guess, The Cannibals of Candyland by Carlton Mellick III, To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee
I’ll be working on catching up on magazines for awhile, and then working on staying caught up lol. Cirque Berzerk I have borrowed on KU and I need to read something to make room. I could end up choosing to read something else. The Cannibals of Candyland is because bingo board space and i’ve been wanting to read another book by Carlton Mellick III. I read The Haunted Vagina by him and enjoyed it. To Kill a Mockingbird is for my 40 before 40 list and no, i’ve never read it.
What have you done in the past week? Currently reading or going to read next?
