December POP (Pile of Possibilities)

I am planning to participate in the Queer Lit Readathon (from the 4th – 10th) and the Christmas Evil Readathon (all month). The covers should link to their Goodreads page. These are just my high priority reads (but still not a big deal if I don’t get to them).

Strange Things in the Woods is for the group Creatures, Creatures Everywhere!

She Drives Me Crazy I got on audio via Hoopla and is queer. Anya’s Ghost is a graphic novel I borrowed from libby. One Last Stop I also borrowed from libby as an ebook and is queer. The Ice Cream Man and Other Stories I also borrowed from libby as an ebook.

I actually decided to borrow a few books via my out of state library card with Brooklyn Public Library in NY because my library card will be expiring in January and they are not doing out of state library cards anymore. So I found stuff to specifically use that card for while I still can.

The Girl From the Sea is a queer graphic novel I have on hold (should have soon) from libby.

Melissa is queer and I own it physically. I actually bought it back when the title was the MC’s deadname, because I heard the author is genderqueer and heard other trans people love the story but I could not get myself to pick it up because just thinking about the title, dead-naming the main character, made me feel sick. I couldn’t understand why that was the title and yea, I couldn’t get past it. It has since been changed. So while my copy has the deadname I feel much better and hope to finally pick it up!

The Haunting of Hill House I own physically, same with The Abominable Snowman of Pasadena, Clown in a Cornfield and In the Miso Soup. Those 4 are for the Christmas Evil Readathon.

If I get to anything else it’ll probably either be via Kindle Unlimited or Magazines I subscribe to (so far behind), but we’ll see what happens. Oh and some Food Wars volumes to!

What’s on your December TBR/POP?

30 in 30 Manga Reading Challenge – November POP

30 manga volumes in 30 days, can I do it? PLUS Nonfiction November?! Who the hell knows but imma have fun trying.

Here is RealmofComics announcement video

Yes I did a Nonfiction November POP (pile of possibilities) and now i’m doing this, also for November. I will see what I get through, if I don’t complete anything that’s fine as long as I have fun trying. At least that’s what i’m telling myself. Here are some manga options I have.

Food Wars! Quite awhile ago I read the first 12 volumes (out of 36) of Food Wars and … stopped for some reason, despite loving it! So I want to reread them and finish the series, I have all 36 volumes ffs! I’m sure I won’t finish it in November, unless I decide to not break it up and go on a super Food Wars binge. But if after whatever I get to in November I read a few volumes a month i’d get it done, so that’s the plan.

Dance in the Vampire Bund Similar to Food Wars I read the first 8 volumes and I should have everything that’s been released (in English in the USA) so far (there are more series to it than just the main one) but it’s been awhile so I want to reread the first 8 and then continue and catch up.

Citrus Plus Vol. 4 is due out Nov 22nd and I have it preordered! So assuming I get it before December i’ll be reading this! I miss Yuzu and Mei! (cover links to Goodreads)

Other potential manga (covers link to Goodreads)

Obviously some of these are the start of a series that if I like i may decide to continue, meaning I might be buying manga in November lol. I have Girl Friends Collection 1 but there is a collection 2 as well. Giant Spider & Me I only have volume 1 of. That Time I got Reincarnated as a Slime … I originally bought what I thought was the first 3 volumes BUT at the time I was a noob and had NO IDEA about “light novels” so what I got was volume 1 and 3 of the manga and volume 2 of the light novel! Ugh. But i’ve borrowed volume 2, the manga, from comixology.

I have 3 volumes of Love me for who I am, which is not all of them. I’ve read the first one but it’s been awhile so … I have all 5 volumes of Fluffy, Fluffy Cinnamoroll. I only have volume 1 of Franken Fran and Boys Run the Riot.

I have 16 volumes (which is all that’s out at the moment, volume 17 has been pushed back so many times at this point i’ve lost track) of Monster Musume and have been reading it (slowly, since my initial goal was to catch up about the same time volume 17 was released but at this point i’m not sure it ever will be so fuck it). I’ve read 9 volumes of Monster Musume so far so I could read volumes 10 – 16. I’ll probably pick up at least a volume or 2. Of course all this is assuming I don’t pick up any of these before November lol.

I only have volume 1 of Spy X Family. And yes I have all 3 volumes of After Hours as it shows. Have I read any of them? No. And no, I haven’t watched any of the anime’s, except Citrus.

October POP (Pile of Possibilities)

Kindle Unlimited

Stuff I might read via KU

Creatures, Creatures Everywhere! Group Read (I may or may not read this)

Currently Reading (since I still haven’t finished the Norton edition of Frankenstein yet or Cannabis Pharmacy. The Weird i’ve taken a long break from, it’s a HUGE anthology, so I will not finish it but I might read a few stories that are in it)

The eclecticist of eclectic book club Group Read (I must read this)

Other random books for one reason or another

Is this all the possibilities? HAHAHA no. Of course i’m not going to read all these and I may read other things, especially if I get to any graphic novels and want to continue on with the series. But if I want to read something completely different, that is ok to. These are just some options to give me some place to start when thinking about what book to pick up next, and only some of the ones i’ve written down lol. Hence, a POP not a TBR.

Also, movies and tv shows I might watch because spooky month: Finish the Elm St. Series (i’ve watched the first 4 so far), rewatch the first Night of the Living Dead and continue the series, The Addams Family, Beetlejuice, Uzumaki, Halloween Ends, rewatch Hocus Pocus 1 and then watch the sequel, Sonic 2, the Chucky tv series, The Winchester upcoming show, MLP: Make your mark, Interview with the vampire tv series, Misery, The Little Shop of Horrors, The Creature from the black lagoon, The Thing, continue The Skull Man tv series (I’ve watched 3 episodes …), and more. Who knows. Yes, I have a big list, like more than I am sharing here because it’s … a lot. But this gives you an idea. And maybe some games to.

Slewfoot: A Tale of Bewitchery by Brom – The group pick for Creatures, Creatures Everywhere!

Lagoon by Nnedi Okorafor – My pick for The eclecticist of eclectic book club

Dracula by Bram Stoker – Georga’s pick for The eclecticist of eclectic book club

Discover – July/August 2022

BBC Wildlife Magazine – July 2022

BBC Science Focus Magazine – July 2022

BBC Science Focus Magazine Summer 2022

BBC Wildlife Magazine August 2022

Of course I still wouldn’t be caught up but i’ve been struggling lately so it is what it is.

Comics and Manga

Saga, Volume 7 and 8 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples – Still working on my reread!

Monster Musume, Vol. 10 and 11 by Okayado – Still working on catching up!

Currently Reading

Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley – I’m in the extras after the story.

Cannabis Pharmacy: The Practical Guide to Medical Marijuana by Michael Backes – Recently got my medical card so I want to make sure I learn as much as I can.

Of course there is more I want to read (and might, it is a POP after all) but even this is a lot!

August POP (Pile of Possibilities)

Stinetinglers: All New Stories by the Master of Scary Tales by R.L. Stine – OMG I can’t believe I actually got approved for this! I love R.L. Stine’s books!

A Little Pinprick (Rainey Paxton Series Book 1) by Paige Dearth – I absolutely loved 2 of Paige’s other books so I am excited to read this one!

Me and My Dysphoria Monster: An Empowering Story to Help Children Cope with Gender Dysphoria by Laura Kate Dale – Hello, Trans here. Of course I want to read this!

Group Reads

Necroscope by Brian Lumley – The group read for Creatures, Creatures Everywhere!

Haben: The Deafblind Woman Who Conquered Harvard Law by Haban Girma – My pick for The eclecticist of eclectic book club.

Black Sun by Rebecca Roanhorse – Georga’s pick for The eclecticist of eclectic book club.

Saga, Volume 7 and 8 by Brian K. Vaughan and Fiona Staples – Need to continue the reread for volume 10 in October!

Deep Trouble I and II by R.L. Stine – Working on reading all the Goosebumps books.

Do I think i’ll read all these this month? No. But I just barely got to one in July because of the surgery and everything. Also I think i have an infection at the moment from the drains I still have. Pray for me, seriously. At least 6 of these would be nice but we’ll see what happens.

Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley – I’ve been saying I need to finish the extras in this book for awhile now. And Frankenstein is my favorite!

Communion: A True Story by Whitley Strieber – Yes I did just read this a few months ago and yes i’m annoyed I have to reread it. I wanted to get to this for YEARS. I finally did a few months ago, and it’s the first in a 6 book series, and bam, there’s a new edition with extra information or something. Ugh. Yes I know, it’s weird to be complaining about this. But I wanted to continue the series not reread the first one. It’s an autobiography series and at least I was able to get this new edition of the first book on audio and it’s narrated by the author so that’s nice.

Cannabis Pharmacy: The Practical Guide to Medical Marijuana by Michael Backes – Until this past week I hadn’t smoked in years but I remembered how it helped my chronic pain and severe stomach problems. Not to mention I like getting high off weed but that’s not the point. My main reason for using it is medical. I finally realized NJ has recreational marijuana legalized now and I went and bought some at my nearest dispensary. I plan to go through the hoops to get a medical card eventually but at least even the “recreational” stuff helps medically to.

July POP (Pile of Possibilities)

I’m going to try and relax and put less on my plate in terms of reading from now on. I want to do other things. Granted this month, July 18th, i’m getting surgery. I expect to be in the hospital about a week. And then recovering for at least a month. Because that’s what it was last time I had this surgery (colostomy hernia repair). So we’ll see what i’m able to do.

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

This is the only book I *have* to get to. It’s my July pick for the The eclecticist of eclectic book club. I love octopuses and it sounds really good! It makes me think of The Soul of an Octopus by Sy Montgomery which I loved.

Now for the books I would like to get to but if I don’t, oh well.

Paradise Club by Tim Meyer

This is the group read for Creatures, Creatures Everywhere! It sounds fun, and summery, and i’ve borrowed it via KU.

Would I be caught up on magazines yet? Nope.

I need to continue my reread already so I can read volume 10 later this year.

I really should read the books i’ve been getting in my BOTM boxes.

We’ll see if I can get to these or not. I still have a lot of catching up to do.

Why I’m Afraid of Bees by R.L. Stine

There are still many Goosebumps books I haven’t read yet, which is beyond unacceptable! This is next on my list.

Transformation: The Breakthrough by Whitley Strieber

I read the first one, Communion. This is the second book. A guy talking about his abduction alien experiences.

Frankenstein by Mary Wollstonecraft Shelley

I have been in the middle of this book since last year. I finished the story Frankenstein, my absolute favorite, but there are extras in it that I want to finish before October. Who knows if i’ll get to it this month or not though.

Stay tuned to see what I end up reading. Like I said, only Remarkably Bright Creatures is a given but the rest of them is what i’m thinking of at the moment. I shall see where mood reading/mood hobbying takes me.

My June POP (Pile of Possibilities)

My June TBR/POP. I go with POP because I don’t do a strict tbr anymore. Pop gives me more room and I don’t have to feel bad about not getting to something, it’s just a huge list of possibilities.

On my 30th birthday (i’m 33 now) I made a “40 before 40 list” that i’m still working on. I should be done years before I actually turn 40 lol. I am hoping to get to

To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee

for my 40 before 40 list.

For my “Creatures, Creatures Everywhere!” Goodreads Group I am hoping to get to

Joyland by Stephen King

Other things I would like to get to for one reason or another include:

The Mist by Stephen King
Why I’m Afraid of Bees by R.L. Stine
Archaeology – March/April 2022 by Archaeological Institute Of America

BBC Wildlife Magazine – Spring 2022 by Immediate Media Company London Ltd
Archaeology – May/June 2022 by Archaeological Institute Of America
BBC Science Focus Magazine – April 2022 by Immediate Media Company London Ltd

I’d still be behind on magazines, but progress ya know?

Remarkably Bright Creatures by Shelby Van Pelt

This is my July Group read pick for my Goodreads Group “The eclecticist of eclectic book club“. I might read it a little early so I can be prepared and come up with things to discuss as well as the fact I should be having surgery in July, though that’s not until mid-July so I could read it before hand and all that, but we’ll see if I get to it a little bit early or not.

Saga, Volume 5 by Brian K. Vaughan
Transformation: The Breakthrough by Whitley Strieber
Monster Musume, Vol. 7 by OKAYADO
Swell by Liz Clark
The Hacienda by Isabel Cañas
Mermaids and Other Mysteries of the Deep edited by Paula Guran

Coral by Sara Ella
Strange Planet by Nathan W. Pyle
The Animated Skeleton by Anonymous
Quiet: The Power of Introverts in a World That Can’t Stop Talking by Susan Cain
Cattywampus by Ash Van Otterloo

Trans Love: An Anthology of Transgender and Non-Binary Voices by Freiya Benson
There Are Trans People Here by H. Melt
Precision Instruments by Blue Neustifter
Take Back the Word: a queer reading of the bible edited by Robert E. Shore-Goss and Mona West

Yes, that’s way more than I can read in a month, and I have even more possibilities listed on my bullet journal pages! It’s not called a POP for nothing! So here’s hoping for a wonderful reading filled June!

Stuff i’d like to watch in June includes; I started The Skull Man on Hidive awhile ago, really need to continue that. Would love to watch Prehistoric Planet on Apple TV+. I have watched 1 episode of Make or Break, a surfing show, on Apple TV+ and really want to continue that. I also watched, on AMC+, an episode of Creepshow. I’d love to watch The Little Mermaid tv show, haven’t watched that actually, at all. Despite loving The Little Mermaid.

If I don’t watch My Little Pony: Make Your Mark before June I need to watch that. Also, Stranger Things! I have watched the first 3 Nightmare on Elm Street movies so I need to continue that series. Also need to watch Sonic 2. And on Discovery+ June 1st should be coming a show called Generation Drag that sounds like it’d be fun!

I need to get to my Sims 2 game but who the hell knows if that’s going to happen lol.

What oh what will June hold?

  1. What are you currently reading?
Kraken by M. Caspian

All the stuff I mentioned on my currently reading last week is still there but Kraken is what i’m now actively reading. It says it’s a gothic erotic horror with tentacle non-con. Right now i’m 40% of the way through. It doesn’t always make sense to me and the characters are varying degrees of annoying. There’s also a lot of typos. However it’s interesting and I want to know what’s going on. So right now I would say i’m liking it. Obviously i’ll know my full thoughts after i’m finished.

2. What did you recently finish?

Discover – March/April 2022

I’m still not caught up on my magazines but if I keep up this pace each month I will be eventually.

I also finally got all 8 chapters of my Killer Klowns from Outer Space (1988) fanfiction up! You can read it on AO3 Here if you want to and add it on Goodreads Here.

3. What do you think you’ll read next?

I have no idea. Here are some things i’m looking at at the moment.

Trans Wizard Harriet Porber and the Bad Boy Parasaurolophus: An Adult Romance Novel by Chuck Tingle
Get a Life, Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert
The Brightsiders by Jen Wilde
Coral by Sara Ella
The Little Mermaid (With Original Illustrations) by Hans Christian Andersen
The Little Mermaid by Walt Disney Company
Disney: The Little Mermaid by Editors of Canterbury Classics

Trans Wizard Harriet Porber and the Bad Boy Parasaurolophus, Get a Life Chloe Brown and The Brightsiders would all work for the neurodivergent author bingo board space. Coral would work for the mental health rep bingo board space AND it’s a The Little Mermaid retelling! And it’s Mermay, and I haven’t done shit for it (except watch the first Little Mermaid movie by Disney. I still have to watch the rest. I still haven’t seen the live movie or the animated tv show). And of course then there is The Little Mermaid stuff.

Does this mean I will without a doubt pick one of these? No, but it’s likely.

Welcome to my new blog (sort of) & May POP (Pile of Possibilities)

I have redone my blog and deleted most of my old blog posts. I wasn’t happy with how it was going, plus I learned about how there’s only so much space I can use and freaked out about all the pictures I had up. Pictures aside though (and that’s not to say I won’t post any pictures from here on out, I just won’t have a ton like I used to) I wasn’t happy with my posts or random schedule.

I’m going to try and stick to a schedule and pre-write up posts. I’m thinking Saturday and Tuesday posts. What will I post? Still whatever I want but since I am a reader there will be bookish content. I do more than just read though so there will be other content to. Movies? TV Shows? Games? Life stuff? Random topics?

My May TBR/POP includes:

Magazines. I have Archaeology, Discover, Philosophy, Science Focus, and Wildlife magazines I badly need to catch up on.

Love & Other Disasters by Anita Kelly. I am currently reading this (as I type this). A female/nonbinary romance? Yes please! My nonbinary queer heart is so happy this exists!

On my 30th birthday (i’m 33 now) I made a “40 books to read before 40” and i’m still working on it! It shouldn’t take me until i’m 40 to finish it. From the books on that list I still need to get to i’m thinking To Kill a Mockingbird by Harper Lee, The Hunchback of Notre-Dame by Victor Hugo, or Like Water Like Chocolate by Laura Esquivel for May.

I’m trying to make my way through all the Goosebumps books I haven’t read yet (or don’t remember reading) and up next is Why I’m Afraid of Bees and Deep Trouble (and then i’d read Deep Trouble II) all by R.L. Stine.

I also have a out of state Brooklyn Public Library card so I read something using that every month.

I am privately doing a couple bingo boards for the year. One was made by someone else and a friend shared with it me, the other I made to make sure i’m reading as diversely as I claim.

For a Neurodivergent author i’m thinking of reading The Brightsiders by Jen Wilde, Get a Life Chloe Brown by Talia Hibbert or Trans Wizard Harriet Porber and the Bad Boy Parasaurolophus by Chuck Tingle.

For first book by a fave author I had some trouble with that as it feels weird to call any other author except R.L. Stine a favorite author because most authors i’ve read 1 book by, but I couldn’t use R.L. Stine because I think that was The Baby-Sitter which i’ve already read, and didn’t like. So, i’m cheating I guess but I can’t see another way to do it, i’m using authors i’ve read 1 book by but I DID love those books so … Anyway for that i’m thinking of Break by Hannah Moskowitz or Believe Like a Child by Paige Dearth.

For mental health rep i’m looking at Girl in Pieces by Kathleen Glasgow, Under Rose-Tainted Skies by Louise Gornall or Coral by Sara Ella.

I’m also re-reading the Saga series to prepare for volume 10, and I was trying to re-read them faster until I saw volume 10 won’t be out until late October. Next up on my re-reading is volume 5.

I do have 2 pages filled with a lot of possibilities in my bullet journal but I don’t want to be overwhelming here lol. Also of note, it’s Mermay!

Pile of Possibilities means I don’t *have* to get to anything specifically, these are all just possibilities!

Speaking of possibilities though i’m also trying to work on watching stuff since i’m so bad with that!

I’m in the middle of watching The Nightmare on Elm Street series. I’ve watched the first 3 so far. As mentioned it’s also Mermay. I have started The Skull Man on Hidive, only watched 3 episodes so far. Other shows I would like to maybe watch include: Leave it to Geege, My Pregnant Husband, Everything’s Gonna be Okay, Our Flag Means Death, and Special. All of these are either about being autistic or queer!

I also love to play Sims 2 and don’t play that enough so there is that to. I have other games I should probably play though … lol.
