I was born with VACteRL Association and a part of that was imperforate anus aka no butthole. Dr. Templeton, who passed away in 2015, made my anus. I was born in 1989. That’s why I got his autobiography. My mom wants to read it since he helped save my life. It is a bit weird though … wiki says he donated $1 million to parties opposing same-sex marriage. I wonder what he’d say now if he knew he saved a queer baby? I can’t help but wonder.
I swear May 2022 has been the month i’ve bought the most books ever! I don’t normally buy THIS many books! The first part didn’t actually quite cover the first half because I expected to buy less in the second half … oops. Anyway, on with the books!
I got most, if not all, of these via sales! The Bone House involves a disabled character. The (Un)Popular Vote has a transgender character. Ghost Story i’ve read via Libby and loved. Also, it wouldn’t process after I bought it so I had to talk to audible help. They were really nice. I ended up getting a refund and a $10 credit so I could buy it again (it was a 24 hour $5 flash sale and refunds aren’t processed that quickly) and it worked.
I read And the Trees Crept In via Netgalley years ago and really enjoyed it. The Cat Who Saved Books, cats AND books, what could be better?! Robbergirl is a lesbian Robin Hood retelling. I read Coraline years ago via Scribd and really enjoyed it.
Smashwords. Free and cheap. What? I’m stocking up on taboo reads for Taboo Thursday ok? Not that I don’t have a ton of things I could read for that already that I haven’t read yet … Well some of it’s taboo, not all of it. And of course the The Trans Case Against Queer Theory because i’m trans and I believe I got Conscience through signing up for some email newsletter thing.
Again, I got a lot of these, if not all of them, free and cheap because of various reasons! Free and cheap is going to be the death of me. Acoustics is a transgender M/M romance!
I have not read this and this is infamous apparently.
I got many of these from thriftbooks and a few from a used book store really cheap! I Can’t Believe I Slept With You is a Yuri (F/F) Manga. Frankenstein, well we already know i’m obsessed. Same with The Little Mermaid now. How to Identify Yourself With a Wound is queer and poetry. I got Bag of Bones, The Party, and The Scarlett Letter really cheap at a used book store near me, and then I had to get The Dance and The Graduation on thriftbooks since they are out of print so I could make sure I had the full trilogy, also got those really cheap.
To Be Devoured I read years ago on KU and loved it, and it’s going out of print in July so I had to snatch up a physical copy! It’s queer horror. The Non-binary Book of Joy was a pre-order from B&N that arrived a bit damaged. Bent, crinkled, scuffed, but it’s still in one piece and readable so I said to hell with it i’ll keep it. It came via UPS.
Have you read any of these? What did you get in the month of May? Part 1 is Here.
Sorry I went nuclear and deleted all my previous book hauls! I’m going to try doing them again and see how it goes. Hopefully I didn’t miss anything this month but I might have. I’ll keep track of it from now on so i’ll be sure.
River of the Gods sounds fun. I’ve been seeing Spy x Family everywhere lately. Queer Body Power, yes please! Cleopatra and Frankenstein sounds cool and is queer. The Children on the Hill says it’s inspired by my favorite book, Frankenstein by Mary Shelly!
I got The Hacienda, Take my Hand, and Yerba Buena from BOTM. Golem Girl I listened to via Libby and loved! My Give Yourself Goosebumps collection is finally complete! Recently I got invested in some baby robins, but a storm killed them when 2 were hatched and 2 were still unhatched. I got the book before the storm. I guess i’m interested in birds now, that’s new. I rarely do puzzles but I do enjoy them hence The Puzzler. I love Buffy so I had to get the Buffy book! I’ve read The Hunger Games via libby but didn’t own them (except the prequel). Loved The Hunger Games so now i’ve got them all! I love horror and Ibitsu is a horror manga so … 🙂
I had bought The Hunger Games trilogy on audio prior to this month but not the prequel, so now I have all 4 physically and on audio. Burn the page is An inspirational memoir-meets-manifesto by Danica Roem, the nation’s first openly trans person elected to US state legislature so my trans ass had to get it. I love animals, hence funny farm. The Puzzle Solver is about disability/illness. The Girl With All The Gifts sounds like an interesting zombie book. I’ve read, on kindle, Voices in the Snow, a couple years ago. I loved it but never continued the series so now I can listen to it as a reread before continuing the series. I can listen faster than I can read.
The beginning of the Synopsis of The House on the Hill says “Still grieving the death of her husband, Lauren leaves the hubbub of Boston for the peaceful shores of Cape Cod, where she hopes to come to terms with her loss and devote herself to her writing.” I lost my husband last year so it felt right for me to get it.
The Perks of Loving a Wallflower are a historical f/nb romance. Children of the Land is an autobiography and The Gene is, well science.
A Psalm for the Wild Built/Unlocked/An Unnatural Life was free through Tor.com early in May. The other 3 were in a bundle on itch.io called “The Trans Terror Trilogy 2022”. Link Here. I haven’t read The ABC’s of LGBT+ yet (though it probably wouldn’t tell me anything I don’t already know but it’s on KU, Hoopla etc.) but I got a free epub of The Gay BC’s of LGBT+ because i’m taking a course “Queering Identities: LGBTQ+ Sexuality and Gender Identity” on https://www.coursera.org/ ! I’m also trying to do a few courses on https://courses.edx.org/ . They are free! There is stuff you can pay for (like grades) but if you just want to learn like I do you can take stuff for free.
D’Vaughn and Kris Plan a Wedding is an f/f romance. Awhile ago I read the first book in The Ghost Files. I found it ok and ended up buying the second book, figuring i’d continue on and never did. Now I got the box set of 1-3.5 for free. I get many kindle books for free, often because of book bub emailing me about them and other on sale cheap kindle books.
I think The Community was a prime first reads thing. It’s an autobiography. I’ve wanted to read Buffering and Educated for awhile, didn’t own them but they are on libby and whatnot. Bookbub informed me they were really cheap so, I bought them. For like $2 and $3.
